What is Lasik?

Lasik stands for “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis” which is a type of corrective eye surgery. Lasik is used to correct vision issues so that glasses an contact lenses are no longer needed to see clearly.

The surgery itself is relatively simple, a small incision is made in the cornea of the eye to lift up a small flap of skin, then a computer controlled laser reshapes the surface of the eye, and finally the flap is placed back into its original spot. The incision heals and reseals itself rather quickly (within a few seconds, and permanently within a few days).

The operation is done as an outpatient procedure without the patient being fully sedated.
